“So far tape enthusiasts – in their Ultimate Analog pursuit – have had to rely on 20 to 30 year-old vintage machines to realize their dream hi-fi experience. The pursuit while satisfying bring with it the usual and expected frustrations. Most good and top-end vintage machines acquired used and having been used in professional recording studios are pretty worn out. It is rare to not have to do a total refurbishment, replace critical parts and re-calibrate the machines. 30 year-old parts, special ICs, etc, are both rare and expensive. Importantly, the electronics of the audio section in these machines would also be vintage implementations and their performance would no longer be comparable against current modern audio electronic implementations…
