A local veteran audiophile, Mr.Robin Chung has just purchased and listened (and enjoyed) to Ms.Lyn Stanley‘s final album “Tribute to 1924” One-Step 45rpm 2 x 180g vinyl record, Personally Signed and limited to 395 prints. The following was his words;
“Just played it -3sides with Koetsu BL MC & 1side with Hana Umami Red MC– & my first impressions:
1) immediately…
‘Foot Tapping Inducing’
…even for my wife next chair (& she’s still discernible enough to point out Lyn’s tempo in Tea for 2 ‘Different’, & I explained Ms.Lyn changed from original Cha Cha to Jazz!),
2) 4DSD(256) with 1 bit sampling @ 11.5m Hz! How far we have come from Telarc’s ‘70’s 18bit @44.9k Hz digital mastertapping! Plus 1/4” analog tape @30ips. Max speed sampling, & analog tape run, for info max info storage & 45rpm for max info retrieval works
3) hence…
‘Wide Dynamic Range‘
…w/o loss of ambience/air around Ms.Lyn’s vocals & stringed Instrutments
(Worst of digital was Wadia’s ‘80s 20K Hz brick wall filter😪)
4) Ms.Lyn’s voice could be…
‘Seductive‘
…🥰as in A2 & B3 or ‘strong’ in B1 😘
5) sound stage ✅ NOT exaggerated wide,…
it’s after all a ‘Cosy Jazz Club‘ setting.
6) mix down 👍👌,
the various Instruments well located Vertically & Horizontally,
…some tracks I could sense guitarist sitting down! On some tracks some Instrutment(s) were allowed some a short prominence, like a short solo, 👌👏
Ms.Lyn’s voice always taking centre stage,
…as it should, though on a couple tracks, appears somewhat bigger than is natural.
7) most importantly,…
MUSICAL & ENJOYABLE,
not just clinically accurate.
8) Worth the asking price, Ringgit Malaysia RM750, 🙏”
I was glad he enjoyed the album and its high quality as much as I did.
