I admit that I was a Movie Buff/ Videophile before being an Audiophile. That was one of the reason why I was into Movies Soundtracks and BIG LOUDSPEAKERS SYSTEMS to play ’em. Therefore, investing into High End Projector was a Natural Progression for me.
It was Unfortunate that my Reference SONY VPL-VW870ES 4K Laser Projector suffered a serious breakdown after only less than 5 years of heavy use (more than 5,000 hours), and that the repair bill was Astronomical(!).
Therefore, I considered AV DESIGNS (MALAYSIA) SDN BHD have done me a ‘Great Courtesy‘ with the prompt installation of the JVC DLA-NZ9 Flagship 8K (e-shift) Laser Projector (retail Ringgit Malaysia RM119,999), to replace the SONY VPL-VW870ES 4K Laser Projector, at my Audio Den.
The process from taking the ‘Projector‘ out from the box to installing it at the ceiling (of course) took some time,…I believed that the process could not be hurried…they told me that all parameters must be (near) perfect.
After that, Mr.James Tan and Mr.Aaron Ming of AV DESIGNS started unpacking their tools to calibrate the picture/ video quality of the Projector. Here, was where the ‘real time-consuming‘ work was to be done.
Mr.James Tan was extremely serious when came to calibrating the Projector for ultimate picture/ video performance. He never joke around in his ‘calibration know-how‘. The tools that the company has invested to get the job (video-calibration) done was considered ‘Highest‘ in the country!…

He shared that each projector required certain time to run in before Serious Video Calibration.
That process took hours at my audio den alone. However, I was told that they have already done the heavy work of video calibration at their shop before delivery to my audio den.

The end result was a SPECTACULAR VIDEO QUALITY that reminded me of a ‘HIGH END OLED TV!‘
After watching more than 15 hours,…
the Crispness of Details were ‘Mind-Blowing‘ even within the Black(s),
At the ‘Avengers Endgame‘ (4K), the Crispness of details at the scene of collapsing tunnels behind ‘Hawkeye‘ (character), with Thanos‘ Four-Legged Creatures after him for the ‘Gauntlet‘ with the ‘Infinity Stones‘, were highlighted clearly and yet without glare or calling attention to themselves.
the Color was Accurate (alive, natural and never over saturated),
At ‘John Wick 3‘ (4K), even at the darkened scenes of the ‘Continental Hotel‘, the color of the characters and surroundings remained lighted (accordingly), accurate, lively and never over saturated.
the Brightness reminded me of ‘TV’,
At the ‘AQUAMAN‘ (4K), the picture quality was as Bright, Dynamic and Lively as any ‘High End OLED TV‘, which was New and Refreshing throughout my more than 20 years in the Home Theatre Projection (and I still have the Projectors to prove it).
the Depth was Mesmerising,
The Depth due to the Amazing Contrast made even a Youtube series, ‘Paolo from Tokyo‘ (upscaled to 4K) looked amazing and delicious.
Similarly, I was Equally Impressed with the Video Quality from the Standard Resolution of the Blu-Ray (1080p).
“WHY SO CLEAR?!“, EXCLAIMED MY DATIN.
To the untrained eyes of my Datin, she noticed the huge differences in Clarity and picture Brilliance between the JVC DLA-NZ9 with my previous reference SONY VPL-VW870ES 4K (which was also calibrated by Mr.James Tan of AV DESIGNS), and that confirmed my conclusion,
that the JVC was the BETTER PROJECTOR.
However, the BEST is yet to come,…with the newly launched JVC DLA-NZ900 (retail Ringgit Malaysia RM119,999) which is to replace the DLA-NZ9 in their catalogue.
